At University I began tutoring my peers outside of hours due to being so motivated by the lecturers which is one of the reasons I now tutor. I then had some experience teaching abroad for a Summer. Upon reflection I knew tutoring was the career for me. Additionally I am keen to help people write very well and I am qualified with Oxford Business School in professional writing and editing (PWE). Furthermore a hobby of mine is being a Critique Circle member, an arrangement where writers exchange ideas and critique each other’s various writing forms. My experience extends to News journalism where my work was published in print and online. Further publications include my anthology of flash fictions and poetry.

I have learned that students require a confidante and a sort of friend, whilst retaining the tutor/student status I do feel I relate well within this ‘ideal’ balance. I have been a head prefect at school and later the sole Student Governor of my college for which I was elected by my peers and where I contributed to the development of the college within weekly “board of governors” meetings. To engage with “both sides of the fence” is imperative; I work with students but also the various examination boards, to remain close to the ultimate goals of both to the benefit of both.

I have worked with students of various backgrounds and cultures from volunteering for the under privileged to foreign royalty which is very interesting for me I enjoy the challenge and the diversity. I understand the discipline and standards required for some of the most demanding educational establishments, but I have also tutored British etiquette and Received Pronunciation. Families can feel relaxed and trusting of me (I have an enhanced DBS).

I have used new research and resources as well as my own talent for tailoring education to uniquely tutor each of my individual students. The best teaching method is indeed this specific tailoring, the flow of conversation between mentor and student with two minds working together so that they receive the correct way of thinking and thoroughly enjoy the experience of properly learning. This enables the student to achieve their academic potential.

My personal life enriches my English tutoring, I read psychology and encourage students to do so as well as analyse peoples body language to become more proficient at character analyses. I visit country-wide historical sites and art galleries and encourage students to do so as to gain a rounded but creative and analytical mind. My close-knit group of friends work in education too and it is fun to discuss educational issues and ideas with them. I have been the leading part in many productions so I provide students with confidence. I am also a nutritionist and knowing how health has a major impact on education, I teach healthy study habits.

I currently tutor with 6 leading London firms and have vast experience of tutoring online too.

I tutor thoroughly and have created and compiled assessments, frameworks, “Need-to-Know”’s, gathered Past Papers, marked Past Papers, AOs (Assessment Objectives), Mark Schemes, created practice exams, revision timetables (incorporating other subjects), prepared students for exams and revision, provided regular homework. I also offer advice on college and University applications. Throughout my tutoring, I have received commendations, referrals and 5 star reviews from my students.
